SEE Invest 2011

The SEE Invest 2011 conference took place in a beautiful City of Istanbul in Ramada Plaza Hotel with more than 70 participants from all around the Europe. The event endorsed the development opportunities for Private Equity sector in SEE Region with sessions surrounding the economic & regional overview, fundraising climate, portfolio development opportunities, value creations as well as interactive master class workshops concerning consumer/retail and renewable energy opportunities.

The conference chairman, Mr Martin Paev (Sortis Invest) together with Mr Umut Korkmaz (Istnvest) opened the event, followed by key note presentation on: regional economic summary from Mr Kaan Nazil (Medley Global Advisors), the role of EIF (Mr Jean-Phillipe Burcklen) and fundraising challenges delivered by Mr Atilla Kilinc (DB Private Equity). Setting the tone, a panel discussion on ‘The role of LP’s in PE financing’ was next, with strong contributions from panel moderator Mr Eren Kuraner (Eurasia Capital Partners L.P.) and panellists Mr Jean Phillipe Burcklen, Mr Baris Gen (IFC), Mr Atilla Kilinc and Mr Kaan Nazil.

After networking lunch break Mr Aaron Goldstein (NYSE Euronext) provided a provoking presentation on specialist insight into Exiting through Stock Exchanges, opening lively session on Debt Financing, distressed equity and leveraged financing. The panel discussion was chaired by Mr Ettore Thermes (Rescue Partners) with co –panel experts: Mr Aaron Goldstein, Mr. Kerim Kotan (Pragma), Mr. Burak Dalgin (Derby Overseas Investments) and Ms Doina Popescu (Pinebridge Investments).

The first day was finished with exciting master class workshops. Consumer/retail analyse was preceded with keynote presentation from Mr Eren Kuraner (Eurasia Capital Partners L.P.). Panellist who join the discussing, included: Mr. Bedii Can Yucaoglu (Turkven Real Estate), Mr Mete Varas ( and Mr Martin Paev. The roundtable discussion on renewable energy challenges was chaired by Mr. Adam De Sola Pool (EIP) with panellist: Mr Martin Mayer (UniCredit), Mr Mehmed Cavusoglu (GE Capital), Mr. Giannis Papadopoulos (HVCA) and Mr Adonai Herrera-Martíne (EBRD).

Day 2 was opened with Balkan market potential, presented by Mr Mirna Marovic (CVCA). After that morning session engaged the audience with active dialogue on The best possible solutions to adding value ensuring ROI and smooth exit (Mr. Martin Paev, Atilla Kilinc, Mr Kerim Turkmen (Mid Europe Partners) and Mr Murat Ozgen (Is Private Equity). The event come to the end with the final roundtable debate on SEE & MENA comparison with key experts: Mr Mete Ikiz (NBGI Private Equity), Mr Mehmet Urcu (Istnvest), Mr Omer Meserretcioglu (Abraaj), Mr Ahmet Erelcin (HSBC) and Mr Kerim Turkmen (Mid Europe Partners).
