7th Annual Southeast Europe M&A and Private Equity Forum

The 7th Annual Southeast Private Equity and M&A forum was held in Belgrade, Serbia at the prestigious Metropol Palace. As in 2013, this year’s 2014 edition was exceedingly successful and received positive feedback from all delegates. EEL Events can proudly announced the number of attendees was the highest ever in recent years with almost 140 participants registered for the conference represented from across Europe (Poland, Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Germany, France and the Balkans countries).

The event was supported by our sponsors Ernst & Young, White & Case, EOS, BDK Legal, Karanovic & Nikolic and Alpen Invest. The Forum partnered with the Serbian Private Equity Association (SPEA) whose president Mr David Schoch welcomed our guests as our chairman. The Croatian Private Equity and VC Association was another main partner with its president Ms Mirna Marovic providing a very valuable macro-economic outlook on the region in her opening address.

With the highlight of the year being the execution of Mid Europa’s investment in SBB and Telemach, this year’s forum was privileged to include a keynote presentation from Mr Andrej Babache speaking on ‘Exits in the region’. Mr Stefan Tzalov (EIF) and Mr Andreas Beikos (EIB) came together to give a joint presentation on ‘IFI’s investments and support for small to medium enterprises’. Mr Troy Weeks (EBRD) shared some useful insight into prominent areas for investment from an LP’s perspective and Mr Vladimir Dasic (BDK) gave an extensive presentation on the legal considerations and the challenges for investing in Southeast Europe.

The forum included several panel discussions looking into important sectors for investments such as telecommunications, healthcare and energy. Panellists included BAC, Bedminster Capital Management, Karanovic & Nikolic, Telekom Serbija as well as Raiffeisen Investment, Blue Sea Capital and Wider Europe Capital Management Ltd. This made for some very interactive discussions engaging our audience. An important debate was also conducted about "Is this a right time for Distressed Investments for SEE region?" with valuable insights delivered by Andi Balta (NCH Capital), Jelena Jović Milentijević (EOS Matrix) , Ugur Yildirim (Elements Capital Partners) and Igo Gruden, Management Board Member in Probanka d.d.

After a full day of information and plenty of opportunities to network, our chairman David Schoch offered his closing remarks, concluding the key points of a very successful and valuable day.
